Mental Health-7 Surprise Good Habits To Boost Your Mental Health

Do you know that our physical health is largely influenced by what we take into our body system? For instance, if  a person lives on a regular diet of junk food, his health will eventually suffer. This same principle is applicable to our mental health.

The things we take into our mind could be called mental food. The information we preoccupy ourselves with, can influence our mental health just as literal food affects our body.

Let’s consider some factors that can us help to improve our mental health as seen below.

FORGET AND FORGIVE FREELY.

Forget and forgive freely

Do you know that forgiving others and mental health have strong relationship?

Understandably, it is not always to forgive, but it is the right thing to do. For example, it can be difficult to let go or pass, when you are on the receiving end of thoughtless or unkind words. You can’t be happy if you harbor resentment. Anyone who does not practice forgiveness, might be the one who pays most dearly.

Like weeds growing wild in a flower garden, bad feelings toward others will likely get worse unless we strive to uproot them. Once bitterness overpowers a person’s heart, it can even negatively affect the mind, our mental health.

When we address conflicts or differences with the goal of making peace, we may be surprised at the excellent results.

Forgiveness protects  the mental health. It is the release of negative—and the potential enhancement of positive—feelings, emotions, and behaviors toward an offender

Forgiveness can result in healthier relationships, less anxiety, stress, and hostility, lower blood pressure and fewer symptoms of depression and above all, improves the mental health. No doubt, we have every reason to forgive one another freely from the heart.

BE OPTIMISTIC.

He is optimistic and hopeful

A recent study conducted in Finland indicates that those who are pessimistic can increase the risk of mental and physical illness, whereas those who optimistic and hopeful experiences good health. About 2,500 men between the ages of 42 and 60 were observed over a period of from 4 to 10 years.

Most scientists reported that the men with “moderate to high hopelessness died . . . at two to three times the rate of those reporting low or no hopelessness; the former group also developed cancer and heart attacks more frequently.”

Try to maintain a positive outlook regarding the future. Forget the past. Move ahead. Do not criticize yourself. Believe in what you can do.

Researchers have found that optimists benefit in many ways from their positive outlook. They tend to perform better in school, at work, and even on the athletic field. Why? Because being optimistic has improved their mental health.

GET SUFFICIENT SLEEP.

You may wonder how much sleep do you need?
Scientists tell us that, on average, humans require about eight hours of rest per night. But studies also show that individual needs vary dramatically.
An honest self-analysis can determine if you are already in a healthful pattern or are experiencing a sleep debt. Experts generally agree on these signs of healthy sleep:
▪ Sleep comes easily without resorting to drugs or fighting restlessness or anxiety.
▪ You are rarely aware of waking up in the middle of the night, but if you do wake up, you can go back to sleep quickly.
▪ Waking up occurs naturally at approximately the same time each morning and usually without the aid of an alarm clock.
▪ Once you are up and going, you feel awake and fairly alert all day.

Having the right amount of sleep can affect your mental health  positively.  You wont even think right. Do not play with your sleep. It pays a lot.

This, of course, does not mean that all entertainment are bad. We can find healthy information on television programs, video games, internet, newspaper and radio programs, books, song lyrics etc.

However, we should be selective, because our thoughts and feelings can be easily swayed by what we watch on television and by other forms of entertainment.

Yes, whether we realize it or not, therein lies the danger of unhealthy entertainment. The truth is, we humans slowly turn into whatever images we carry in our minds.

LAUGHING.

Do not be hard on yourself. For decades, it has long believed that laughter is a good medicine for our mind, the mental health.

VOLUNTEERING.
