Eating fresh fruit reduces the risk of heart disease.
According to a 17-year study of 11,000 people, among those in the study who ate fresh fruit every day, there were 24 percent fewer deaths from heart attacks and 32 percent fewer deaths from strokes. Of those who ate fruit daily, 21 percent fewer died compared with those who ate fruit less frequently. How important to eat fruit daily!
Reduces the risk of getting strokes
Diets lacking in fresh fruit may contribute to increases in vascular ailments such as stroke. For the greatest health benefit, researchers now recommend eating at least five servings of vegetables and fruits a day. You get tremendous protection from strokes by eating more fruits and vegetables
Reduces blood pressure.
A diet low in fat and rich in fruits and vegetables has been found for the first time to lower blood pressure quickly and as effectively as drugs.
One study tested the effects of dietary changes in hundreds of adults at six medical centers in one developed country. Participants were separated into three groups.
One group was given a diet similar to the “average” American diet. The second was given a diet high in fruits and vegetables, but all other items remained the same. The third got a diet high in fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products that was also low in total fat, cholesterol, and saturated fat. The second and third groups both had blood-pressure reductions that were medically significant, but the third group’s diet showed the best results.
For participants with hypertension, the results were as good as or better than those achieved using medication. The two diets included nine to ten standard servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
The reason is that most fruits and vegetables are rich in potassium, which, while not lowering blood pressure, prevents the pressure from damaging arteries.
Better than food supplements
For decades, scientists have recommended the intake of carotenoids as food supplements. Beta-carotene is a well-known carotenoid, and it has been associated with the prevention of heart attacks, strokes, and certain cancers. However, new studies question the benefits of beta-carotene supplements.
Most food scientist “cautioned against taking supplements of individual carotenoids.” It was explained that “in nature we get a mix of carotenoids, and we don’t yet know how important it is to get this mix.”
It has been recommends that “until we identify the protective entities in fruits and vegetables, we can’t encapsulate them into a pill.” Most experts have returned to the advice traditionally given by mothers: ‘Eat your fruits and vegetables.’”
Provides potassium to the body.
Among the best sources of potassium are bananas, potatoes, strawberries, and grapefruit and orange juice.. Reduces the risk of getting cancer
